Off Brand Series - La Grange by ZZ Top

So completely off my usual thing but I love ZZ Top and so do Kevin and Kenny so hey, why not. I’ve been playing guitar for many a year but singing for about two weeks and it really shows. I think the joy comes through though. Thank you Billy, Dusty and Frank! Huge fan! Kevin Scott on bass and Kenny Grohowski on drums.

The 2nd tune.. OMG!!! WHAT A TUNE WHAT A BAND!!!!
What a tune what a band!!
such a good energy !😃👏👏🔥
Great document! ❤ Thank you for sharing! I was there I could see the soundcheck and I saw Chris Potter playing drums amazingly! I didn't know Ricardo's Music until that day, and I fell in ❤ with that marevellous MUSIC!
What cool guitar is that? Looks and sounds great mister Grilli! THX U3!!!
Hey Mr.Gerards! Thank you very much! This is a D'Amrosio Allegro, 16' archtop with a floating pick up. Made in 2012 by Otto D'Ambrosio (great guy) I was lucky to get in 2021! Def check his stuff out www.dambrosioguitars.com/
@@RicardoGrilli WOW so cool, I have an Eastman ER1 also disigned by Otto D'Ambrosio! A VERY cool guitar 2!! ;-)
Promo`SM
Yes! Such a killer band and set! @MarkTurner is a very scary player!
Beautiful
What are we thinking about Harlands comping, ground breaking maybe? Very active, beautiful language and phrasing, lots of hi hat pedal. I swear no one does anything close to this
He’s absolutely the man. My number 1
Yeah! Nice one!
Thanks Morten love your playing man!
Yeah - wonderful performance with a great band! [and it sounded like he said "Grill?"] >:^/
Yup, took Mitch a couple of tries to get it! Lol
Awesome!
Thank you!
Oh yeah! Wonderful music - thanks for sharing this, Ricardo!
The absolute pleasure of hearing what Eric Harland plays on this piece is sublime.
Hes the man!
Another great set from these three. Why only 360p video though?
Sadly its the only resolution Smalls Records at!
@@RicardoGrilli Sadly indeed.
I could listen to this all day. What a beautiful set.
'Promo SM' 🎶
Sounds great dude
Very cool bro!
Thank you!
With jazz it’s pretty easy to flow, u can mess up and will prolly still sound good👍
Ha! I wish it were so, would’ve saved me many sleepless nights!
[Confused by the masks, etc. until I saw the time stamp -- "Dec 2020!"] I dig "1962" - fantastic album! Time for another RG release!! :)
These are quality sidemen, guitar player. Not that you don't deserve them, but they definitely need no introduction... although as a professional musician, saying their name at the end of your own tune, as you did, must be an incredible thrill. All the best.
These are quality sidemen, and also friends, Thanos the Titan. I do deserve them. As the leader of the ensemble introducing the musicians is not only my honor but my obligation, it'd be disrespectful not to do so, also someone entirely new to jazz might've been in the club that night. The thrill was in the playing together, just as it was on my trio gig last night with none of those musicians (but with great ones nonetheless). Jazz is collective art form, at its best when egos are at their lowest. I posted the video because the performance speaks for itself and both the band and crowd felt it.Thanks for listening!
@@RicardoGrilli Thanos, haha... Just a 3d scullpt I made at some point. Hi Ricardo, thanks for your message. I agree with everything you wrote. By my post I just meant that even though you are a top level musician, they appear to me more famous than you are (I wish you the best though! With this kind of bands, it is a good place to be!). Musically, anyone of you should be lucky to be well surrounded. And of course the thrill of playing together at this level must be insane (saying the names at the end, is just something funny from another point of view, which is outside of your reality, anyone would dream of saying these words at the end of their gig... ). It is nice to learn that your egos were left aside, I expected no less from you guys. I have met Potter a couple times and he seems like a lovely person. I have witnessed many times that simplicity is simply what comes with excellence. Each one more humbled to share the stage with people they deeply respect. Peace!
I appreciate good jazz. Every melody and every musical note touches my heart. Good song, good guitar solo and a luxury collaboration with Maestro Chris Potter. Thank you so much.
🔥🔥
Harland hits the flow state in this one for sure
He’d love this comment!
Wonderful music :D
Thank you!
Chic!!!!
Muito bom!!!
Here for probably the 100th time checking out this masterpiece <3
Thank you so much!
Yeah - great performance! Love it! [any more from this gig??]
Indeed! More coming, the Ricardo Grilli electric band 😂
@@RicardoGrilli You gotta put a whammy bar on that LP! ;p
Wow!
🙏
That canopus yaiba bop kit sounds great too. And of course Eric Harland who play on it with perfection.
Perfect trio 🔥
Thank you so much! I’m hoping to bring it back!
@Ricardo Grilli You are awesome Ricardo 👏
Eargasm!
One doubt I have, to sound more articulate on my ibanez acutica AF, would I have to use plain strings or could I use normal strings with a larger gauge ?
Fala rapaz! Então vc tá perguntando entre corda lisa our enrolada?

Yeah nice tune man!
Thank you sir!
Beautiful guitar! What model?
Thanks so much! It's an Allegro, made by Otto D'Ambrosio, luthier out of NY!

Lindo!!!!
Nice man. I actually hold my pick at and angle that allows me to bow the strings where the pick never leaves the string and creates the warm tone I get. My old guitar teacher Bill Connors of Return to Forever fame showed me this way to hold the pick. The pick is very important. I have driven back to me home to get my certain pick that I forgot because it gives me a certain sound no other pick will.
Endless approaches! To be continued!
Dude. I’m still smitten with that guitar… the resonance acoustically! Could work as a Django-style thing, which is not always the case for archtops… damn! Also yeah that thumb angle is weird 😂 My left thumb does that but not my right, unfortunately haha
Dude! Thanks so much, it def can do the django thing, I’ve done it a couple of times, I’m no manouche player but can wing it a bit. It’s a great instrument. HA! Yeah I had no idea til someone told me I held the pick weird!
Nice job bro 👌👏
Thanks so much brother! Appreciate the listen
Oomph, I don't have the skills to back this guy on the drums, but I wish I did
Bruh thanks for the words and check out Adam Arruda, I don’t have the guitar skills to back him on drums tbh! He’s a fiend
You are better than I will ever be, but man, that is the level of jazz I like to call “unlistenable.” Take an upvote anyway
Thank your for listening and for the upvote my friend! I’m being silly on the title but I appreciate that you’d give it a try! The chords are a bit weird on this one for sure
And thank you for the compliment too btw! We’re all just trying to get it together!
Mad respect
Thanks very much!
Killer Playing !! Beautiful Les Paul
Thank you!!! Took me 37 years but got me one, great axe!
Need some soup for those noodles
Some miso! Make a ramen maybe!
